What Makes us Different

Internet Security is not a spectator sport. As a result we take it very seriously. Since the arrival of the Internet thousands of people have lost many millions of dollars because they were not up to speed on it.

While much of Internet Security is based on technology and can be rectified by purchasing the right software, another aspect is simply the exercise of common sense.

An example of common sense security on the Internet is not falling for some email tricks about getting an inheritance in some far-off country.

How is it possible that you could be entitled to an inheritance from someone in a country that you have never been and where no relatives of yours have ever lived, nor presently reside?

If someone wants you to transfer $20m from his bank to one that you will set up for him or her in your country on his/her behalf with you paying the transaction fee, then a bell should go off in your head.

Ask yourself why a total stranger would want to transfer real hard-earned money that they claim to have acquired to be under your total control?

They have never met you and you have never met them. How can they be sure you wont steal it? And how can you be sure that the money exists?

And if he/she has got all that money why not let them pay the transaction fee? Then most importantly, won't your bank disclose that amount of money to the authorities and get you in trouble for suspected money laundering if you ever got that transfer? 

Finally, the email is captioned "undisclosed recipients". If it is you that have won that lottery why is the email not addressed directly to you? If it is you that has acquired that inheritance how come they don't even know your name? 

When you get an email with an attachment from an unknown source do not open that attachment.

Attachments can come loaded with virus and spy applications that can extract your personal information as you surf the Internet, make an online visit to your bank, or visit what you consider a safe website.

Do whatever you can to avoid being a victim of some Internet scam. Take Internet Security as seriously as we do.
