Online scammers use such things as rewards and messages to lure targets and they succeed in the end. If you have been responding to such messages, it is time to stop it unless you are totally certain that you are responding to a safe site.

  3. Do not also respond to emails that come through to you and you do not know their sources. Spam messages are the working of online scammers and once you respond to their emails, they could gain access to your account and the information that you have there. These could be used to hack your system as well.

  4. If you follow links that you come across in the Internet without being sure that they are from safe sources, it is time to avoid it. These too could be traps set up by online hackers in order to access your account and your personal details.

  5. If you are using wireless networks at home or in the office and you do not have a strong passwords for them, you are also exposing yourself to hackers. You need to secure your network(s) using strong passwords in order to avoid other people from gaining access.

  6. Do not turn off your computer’s or router’s security features because these are very important in keeping one safe in the Internet. If for instance you have not enabled your firewall, you may be accessing even unsecured sites in the Internet and this will bring you into contact with online scammers. You need to be aware of the security features that you have and enable all of them for a safe use of the Internet.

  7. Antivirus software is an important program that many people ignore sometimes. You may have installed it in your computer but you have not enabled it or do not update it as often as required. It is time to check be more cautious and ensure that it is working well to protect your computer against any risks that could come against it.

 

Many people are busy learning how they can protect themselves online but they are still making some of these mistakes. By committing these mistakes, you are simply making it easier for somebody to hack into your accounts. In order to be absolutely safe as you use the Internet and you computer generally, remember to keep from committing these mistakes.

• Avoid giving personal information such as your address and phone number to someone you do not know.
• Avoid opening emails from unknown sources unless you do online marketing.

• Avoid online friendships with unknown persons of dubious character.
• Be careful who you meet in person who you've met online.
• Tell someone else about any bad Internet experiences you are having online especially if you are a child.
