How to be Safe on the Web
There is this saying “better safe than sorry”. This can be applied to many different areas of life including internet surfing. You can derive many benefits fron the Internet. It makes life easier and more convenient.
However, users should also be open to the fact that there they are putting themselves at risks when they share information on the Internet. This is the reason why they need to be very careful.
There are different ways to observe security on the Internet. With the proper knowledge, no one needs to fall victim to Internet criminals who know nothing but to hurt others.
The first thing that Internet users should do is to check if they have an active firewall. A firewall is very important to have because it will filter what comes in and out of the computer.
Remember not to surf the Internet if the firewall is not active. This is like going into a battle without weapons. Viruses are everywhere. They even come in different forms. Make sure to have a good firewall.
This may be an unpopular opinion but it will be best to use other Internet browsers than Internet Explorer. This browser is the target of every hacker. The reason for such is because the majority of Internet users use Internet Explorer. So, do not join the hype. Use another browser. There are tons available such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and others.
Once the right browser has been chosen, don’t allow the browser to automatically remember the passwords.
This is risky. Doing this is like giving other people the access to a user’s account.
Virus developers also make use of this method to sniff through the cookies. With that, they can find the username and passwords. This can be very dangerous especially if the account is bank-related.
Make an effort to type the username and the password manually every time. This will not hurt. Putting and sharing private data in the internet is also a big no no! Private informa-tion may be in the form of credit card information, real name, address and so on. This can be done if it is really essential.
However, it will be wise to check first that a website is secure before using it to enter your personal information. Usually, checking the security of a website is done by finding the padlock that can be seen on the browser. Treat passwords and usernames with caution. Avoid giving them to other people. These things are personal. It will not hurt if they will not be shared with others.
Aside from this, it will be best to avoid repeating the username and passwords over and over at different sites and with various accounts. Make sure to use different usernames and passwords for accounts in e-mails, online banking, and others. This will prevent hackers from getting access to your information.
If the usernames and passwords are all the same, the accounts are definitely at risk because it will be much easier for other people to guess and get access to them.
Having a different list of new passwords and usernames can be set up for you to use at will. And do not keep these on your computer. write them on a piece of paper sna keep them in a safe place.
