It is important that you know how to build your own defense for something that you pay for like your home, your valuables, and even your Wireless Router. Yes, you read it right!

Your Wireless Router is often targeted by hackers who wish to have access to your Internet connection. It may sound like it is hard to set up protection for it, but it could be as easy as counting 1,2,3 if you follow these steps religiously.

Step in building your Router Defense #1:

Are you familiar with your WPA2 Wireless Encryption? Enable it! - WPA2 stands for Wi-Fi protected Access and it serves as protection for your very awesome High-speed Internet Connection. It is not like you should be paying for it and yet someone should be able to hack it just like that. It would be very unfair, right?

If for now what you have is the Wired Equivalent Privacy or WEP, then might as well invite all the hackers to hack your Internet connection because you are giving it all away without putting up any kind of fight at all. Just make sure that you upgrade it to WAP2 for your own protection. You can manually upgrade WEP to WAP2 without any hassles.

Just refer to your router's manual for the proper instructions. After changing it to WAP2, you should consider changing your SSID as well. Your SSID is the name of your Internet connection. Make it more personal so hackers will not be able to track it. Also, make sure you use a very strong password. By doing so, no one can easily guess your password.

Step in building your Router Defense #2:

If you have your Router’s firewall disabled, then enable it! – Turn on any protection you might use such as your Router’s firewall. It has a built in firewall protection so you need not worry about where to get it.

And another good thing about it is that it may have a “stealth mode” which works like an invisibility cloak that somehow hides your network’s availability from others. Double check to see if it works properly.

Another choice that you have is to use a VPN service. Virtual Private Networks may give you the impression that is is very expensive but that is not so. They used to be, but now you can get them at a very reasonable price - almost next to nothing and for a monthly fee.

Your very own Virtual Private Networks is one of the best ways to build as a defense against those who would try to hack into your Internet connection from time to time. This VPN can make it very hard for hackers to locate you since it uses a different IP address to confuse hackers.

You have to protect what you pay for. You work very hard for the things you achieve, so do not give them away for nothing - especially to undeserving people like hackers. Follow these few steps and tips to build a strong Router defense for your safe internet use.
