Cloud Computing Security Issues

For some who wish to use a method of sending out resources for computer processing, Cloud Computing is one the best choices for you, even though you may not feel that way about it.

For quite a long time now, Cloud Computing has been present in the market place, but its use was not as popular and it was not as accepted as it could have been.

Thanks to Cloud, handling emails has become quite popular now and very easy to manage as its applications are being developed. It was very secure even though initially it was not noticed and utilized, and early on no one found any means of tampering with its security flaws.

But now, Cloud has issues when it comes to Computer and Internet security. It lacks a certain level of security that most users and vendors utilize for their business or personal applications.

Before you jump in and use Cloud Computing, you must be fully aware of what you are going up against first. Here are some of the issues with the security provided by it. These issues will depend on the type and sensitivity of your files and data.

  • Risk #1: Lock-in like a prison: Cloud vendor lock-in won’t give you an easy time switching to another vendor. It will give you a hard time to switch over and use other services. This could be quite irritating on your part, especially when you need to switch as soon as possible and very urgently.

  • Risk #2: Protecting data is the vague part- You do not have the full confidence that Cloud Computing has your data covered and protected. Somebody else can actually mis-handle your files and data, and possibly get away with it. This can be devastating and frustrating when it happens. But at least you now know what to expect when you are using Cloud Computing.

  • Risk #3: Technicalities; as Cloud Computing offers the ability to share files and data, risk is inherent in this feature. Expect it to be more helpful, but its significant feature such as file sharing can actually result in failing to isolate what is yours and what is for the other tenants, which may expose what you do not really wish to share. For some, it is called a guest-hopping attack.

  • Risk #4: 99.9% guaranteed uptime. This 99.9% data availability assured uptime, is not that big of a deal because most people do expect that thy are getting very reliable and consistent service. However, the assurance is very important to businesses though outages that can occur due to businesses pausing and discontinuing, which happens in real life.

  • Risk #5: Security gap is such a big deal- While searching for a public vendor, there is a tendency that you might lose your right to rule over an infrastructure, which is something you might not like when using Cloud.

  • Sure, there is nothing perfect made in this world. There are flaws in

everything. And it is good to find out what you are getting into before you actually get into it. Cloud Computing might offer some help to you, but consider these things first before jumping in to use Cloud Computing.

What is Cloud Computing?

According to Wikipedia. “Cloud Computing" is a colloquial expression used to describe a variety of different Computing concepts that involve a large number of computers that are connected through a real-time communication network (typically the Internet).

Cloud Computing is a jargon without a commonly accepted non-ambiguous scientific or technical definition. In science, Cloud Computing is a synonym for distributed computing over a network and means the ability to run a program on many connected computers at the same time.

The popularity of the term can be attributed to its use in marketing to sell hosted services in the sense of application service provisioning that run client server software on a remote location”.

For the record, there has been business computing going on for a very long time. However, going back to about three years ago, things have changed most especially among very large companies. Any company with vision to grow and become very successfully will need to develop their very own Information Technology infrastructure to maintain hardware as well as software.

Large companies need vast amounts of servers and equipment that can be very costly. They need to do everything possible to keep their operations and systems up and running properly. And now with such a reliable utility as Cloud Computing, any company can have a dependable and safe business computing that works like a normal service for them. It is like being able to freely use electricity and water. And so do we need Cloud Computing to support our “utility” needs for our IT infrastructure.

But what does Cloud Computing do? For those who have not heard yet, it offers a very nice utility service for anyone who seeks a dependable internet connection. There is no need for computing hardware to be owned and run by the company as the computing horsepower itself is located and run on the external servers.

As a matter of a sure fact, Gartner, a known company for market research had estimated that before 2012, almost 20% of the companies running will be free of any IT cost due the advent of Cloud Computing.

If you are still wonder how it will be of benefit to you then read on. First, it will reduce the cost of your computing operating expenses. Second, you do not need as much space for the housing of equipment. This saves both money and space. But could it be any better? Actually, it does get better. Just think of not having to worry about your computer crashing.

Also, the hard drives obviously won’t fail you though they offer the same level of usage. Think of a safe room for your systems that is handled by professionals not charged on your payroll directly, which saves you monthly fees and everything at a cost lower than you have imagined.

And with as awesome a service as this the quality of quality service will not be compromised.
