Facebook Friend or Just Another Hacker-- How You Can Tell

With so many people using the Internet these days, one has to be careful in order not to fall into the hands of a hacker. Facebook is the most used social networking site and so many account hackers have taken advantage of this in order to steal from unsuspecting Facebook users.

You have to be on the lookout all the time so that you do not become one of their victims. Otherwise you could end up losing so much to these account hackers or even putting your safety at stake.

Tips to Differentiate Between Your Friend and a Hacker

  • Since most of the friends you have in Facebook are people that you know in person, you can easily tell if the activities on their Facebook wall are their own doing or the work of an account hacker. You may need to be somewhat a little more observant but you can always tell if something’s up with someone who’s your true friend on facebook. If for instance a person that you know in person starts posting sexual ads on their wall, and he/she is not really the type of person that normally do that, this is automatically the work of a hacker and you need to warn him/her before it gets out of hand.

  • An account hacker will also start asking for money in order for it to look like it is your friend asking for money. They will come up with a story in order to solicit money through your friend’s account. If this were to happen, be sure that it is your friend first before you start sending the money because you could lose a lot of money just like that if you are not careful. You could for example call your friend to make sure that it is actually them asking for money before you send any.

  • If you notice a post that has poor grammar and you are used to perfect posts with no grammatical errors from such a friend, this is also a cause for worry. Sometimes these hackers will use very poor language in a post and this could easily tell you that it is not your friend’s post. If on the other hand the grammar is perfect and you are used to a few grammatical errors from your friend’s posts, you should immediately know that an account hacker is at work.

  • Another indication is in case your friend’s post is asking for personal information and he has never done that before or rather, your friend ought to know whatever information they are now asking for. All in all, it is quite unusual for people to ask for personal information and if it is done in a social site like Facebook, you can easily tell that there is a problem somewhere. Do not give out your personal details so easily without being sure that it is indeed your friend that has posted that.

  • If you notice that your friend has posted the same link on the walls of all his Facebook friends, this could be the work of an account hacker. If you receive a certain link from your friend in Facebook, check out if this has been done to all his/her friends before you click on that link because it could be a malware link and you could fall victim of a hacker so easily.

  • Account hackers will also want to use link shortening services whenever they are posting a link in order for the people receiving those links not to know what they are following before they actually click on the links. Be warned about this as well even if the hacker is disguised as your Facebook friend.
