How Can I Secure My Wireless Network?

 

Wireless Networks are usually the target of many hackers because they can easily gain access to all the computers that are connected to that particular wireless network. Many people have lost important data to such hackers simply because they had not secured their wireless networks.

 

Some hackers may even use that data to harm you or to steal from those who do not have adequate security. So you have to be sure that no one can hack into your network or access your computers in any way possible, and one way of achieving this is through securing your Wireless Networks.

 

Another reason why you should secure your Wireless Network is in order to avoid paying huge bills while other people are just using your network without your authorization. You need a strong password so that no one will be able to do that; then you can be sure that you are only paying for the bills that you have used.

 

There are different steps to take in order to secure your network and avoid access by any other person and these are:

 

1. Turn on your Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 because this is more resistant to hacker attack than WEP. If you had set up your Wi-Fi network some years ago and you have not changed any of its settings until now, chances are that you are not safe at all and you could get hacked quite easily. That is why it is good to change the protection to a better, more advanced and more effective than the previous WEP.

2. Avoid using the common wireless network name that many people use because it will be easy for your wireless network to be seen by hackers and this could make it a vulnerable target of any hacker. Hackers are very smart these days, and some can hack even a strong password, therefore you may want to avoid anything that will make your network obvious to them.

3. Check out for your wireless network firewall and enable it if it is not enabled so that you can protect any external harm that may tend to pass through to your network.  Be sure to test it as well in order to ensure that it is strong enough and it is protecting your data at all times.

4. Set a password for your Wireless Network and make it hard to guess by hackers that would want to gain access. What you do is to use numbers, letters and symbols, and to make it as long and complex as possible. This is how many people secure their networks because a long password will more often than not be arduous to guess especially if it is also complicated.

5. Admin via wireless feature on your router must be tuned off because hackers can use it to gain access to your router through the admin features.  This is an easy way which is frequently used by many hackers: consequently do not give them the chance to work the same trick on you.

 

If you have had a hacker attack in the past, it is obvious that your router security is not as strong as you would like it to be or like you had initially thought. You need to work fast once this happens if you want to avoid more attacks, and these quick and effective steps will help you sleep in peace knowing that you are safe, and that the data on your computer is safe also.
