Install Internet Parental Control on Your Router

Your kids should be absolutely safe and the Internet is one area that you need to be on the lookout for if you want what is best for your kids. Children these days do not want to be left behind by their adult counterparts especially when it comes to the use of the Internet as they are also accessing the Internet and doing all sorts of things online like playing games and connecting with their friends in the social media.

Many parents have put enough measures in order to block certain areas on their computers that their children can access which they are not supposed to access. The problem is that most of our children are far much better than us when it comes to the use of the Internet and will break into any parental controls that you put.

So what do you do as a parent? In order to still ensure that they are not accessing the sites that are for adults, you can use parental controls on your router in a very easy and effective way. This way, not even a savvy tech kid will be able to hack their way into those sites and you will have peace of mind as your kids use the computer and get onto the Internet.

Another reason why you need to do it with the router is because you do not want to go to every device that your children are using especially their mobile devices and put your parental controls there. This will seem to them like you are not trusting them and they may not be so happy about it. Children do not have to know that you are controlling them and that is why you should do it at the router.

How to do it

  1. Go to your router’s administrative settings and log in to the administrator’s console using your router’s address. Get to the access controls and establish a rule for blocking certain sites that you do not want your children to get to. You can do it for YouTube for instance, which is seen by many parents as an unsafe site for their kids.

  2. Be sure to “save” the rule after implementing it to ensure that it is working. Once that is done, you can test the rule to see if it works. You do this by trying to access the sites that you have blocked and see if they will open. If they don’t open you know for sure that they are blocked.

As a parent, you do not have all the time to keep checking out the sites that your children are accessing from the computers and their mobile devices. If you have a lot to do, this is an easier and more effective way to keep them safe from the sites that could otherwise harm them. There are so many devices that children are using these days together with the computer. It will be hard for a parent to keep track of all what the children are doing online through all these devices.

Controlling the sites from the outer will be much easier for the parent too. Most of these parental controls do not work and some children will still hack their way into the sites that have been restricted, so parents need to know that they have at least done their part and hope that their children will not hack into them.
