SmartQ U7

The Smart Devices SmartQ U7 is not just a regular Andriod tablet in the market. The 7-inch tablet comes with a 35 lumen pico projector which can throw impressive large image of up to 50 inches on the wall. The multi-talented device runs on Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean) that you can use during field presentations.

Design

The Smart Devices SmartQ U7 has metallic black plate and plastic band around its perimeter. It looks like the other tablet on the market except for a 0.57 inches projector hump on the back. There is also a thin rubber strip to keep the device in place when using it as a projector. Along the edge, you will find the pico, a focus slide projector lens and an on/off switch for the projector. Flip the switch to fire up and start beaming a mirror image of the U7’s display on a nearby wall. Use the settings menu to control the brightness or use the simulated pointer for presentations.

Features:

  • 7.9 x 4.6 x 0.43 inches and 13 ounces in weight

  • Dual Core 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 Processor

  • Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean)

  • 8 GB of storage

  • Dual Camera (2MP)

  • microSD card slot

  • mini-HDMI out

  • 1,024 x 600 pixel IPS LCD

  • Wi-Fi connects to 802.11b/g/n

  • Bluetooth 4.0

  • Video supports MPEG-4, , DivX, H.264 WMV files and Xvid

  • Battery life of more than 4 hours

U7’s critics would say that the gadget is too pricey for its features. But considering the built-in projector alone, it will already cost about $150. The additional features will probably account for the rest of the cost. The projector is a neat trick capable of impressing your friends. You can use it as emergency television (in the absence of one) and screen for video gaming. It creates roughly 50 inch-screen which is usable for many viewers.

Pros

The built-in pico projector is clear and bright with a maximum resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. It is usable in sharing photos and videos. If you attach it to external speakers, you can comfortably watch a movie.

Cons

U7 has lower resolution screens than other competitors. The dual camera produces soft and grainy shots. The battery life is ordinary and does not offer any edge from its competitors. As with the internal specs, the dated hardware is not a good thing. The device does not also charge over USB. Overall, it is a bit expensive for a 7-inch tablet. There are other options like the Nexus 7 that offer a faster processor, longer battery life and a sharper image. But if you consider the actual setting, the combination of tablet and projector is a price obstacle for many companies. Thus, the $300 cost is still within the reasonable range.

Conclusion

Although the Smart Devices SmartQ U7 seems to be like any regular tablet, it has something that makes it unique. The projector works for individuals who love sharing photos and presentations. You do not have to bring external and heavy projectors along with your laptop during business conferences or road trips. With the U7, you will get the projector as promised. You are able to create your own screen wherever you go.
