HP Envy x2 Review

HP has once again released another laptop under the Envy series. The HP Envy x2 is an Atom-based full Windows 8 with a solid yet attractive package. The well-built design and slim look gives it a sexy appearance. The device has the best of both worlds – a laptop and tablet in one. The upper lid undocks and becomes a multi-touch tablet that can go with your busy schedule.

Design

At first glance, HP Envy x2 seems to look like an ordinary Ultrabook. Itshowcases an 11.6detachable screen, robust aluminum chassis. The glossy finish gives the device a sparkle similar to other designer-priced gadgets. At 19mm thick and weight of 1.41 kg, this is one of the thinnest and lightest laptops in the market. When in the tablet form, it only weighs 710 grams. The thick brushed aluminumkeyboard is similar to that of the MacBook. There are compact speakers in the bottom of the tablet/ display, HDMI on the left side of the keyboard, SD card reader, two USB 2.0 slots, and microSD slot on the screen.

Pros

The best feature of the HP Envy x2 is its great battery life. In the tablet mode, it can last for up to 10 hours of full screen video playback. The designer look is also attractive and if you consider the exterior alone, you will say that the price is worth the style you get. This is also very slim in tablet mode and very light to carry around. The big screen is also a nice feature.

Cons

HP Envy x2 is not recommended for 3D gaming or form demanding desktop applications. The hinge only folds to 125 degrees and there are problems encountered in undocking it. The storage capacity is another disappointing feature since the CPU can only support a maximum of 2 GB of RAM. The low performing processor does not support heavy gaming and computing needs. The resolution is below from what is expected from large and expensive tablets. There is no single USB port on the tablet which means that you need to move to the laptop mode before you can transfer or access data. With all its weaknesses, the device is simply too expensive.

Conclusion

HP Envy x2 has the looks similar to other expensive gadgets in the market. It is a stylish Windows 8 hybrid with great battery life. This will be a nice option for those who value good looks. Although not for multitasking works and 3D gaming, it can support light tasks, web browsing and simple office works. Generally, this is a convertible laptop and tablet with basic capabilities.  But if you consider the price, this is way too high for the specs and features you get. The hardware is not worth the amount you pay. If you want to demand more value for your money, this is the best option.
