Spicy Cherry Chocolate Brownies



The Chocolate Brownie was originally developed in the United States. It became popular in different parts of the world in the 20th century. The brownie is in between a cake and a cookie in texture. They are commonly eaten by hand and often accompanied with hot milk or coffee. New recipes incorporate it with ice cream or topped with whipped cream to create a new type of dessert. Original chocolate brownies are sweet. But today, we will give it a nice twist. The Spicy Cherry Chocolate brownie is a little spicy. It appeals to anyone who likes to have a little heat in the mouth.
Ingredients:
· 1 cup melted butter
· 3 cups sugar
· 1 tbsp vanilla extract
· 4 eggs
· 1 ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
· 1 tsp cayenne pepper
· ½ tsp cinnamon
· 1 tsp salt
· 1 cup chocolate chips
Procedure
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease a dish for baking. Set aside.
2. In a bowl, beat together butter, sugar and vanilla. Add the egg one at a time until well mixed. You can use an electric mixer to accomplish this. But keep the setting in the medium speed.
3. In another bowl, sift flour, , cayenne pepper, cocoa powder, cinnamon and salt.
4. Combine together the dry ingredients with the batter mixture. blend until well blended.
5. Fold the cherries and chocolate chips using a spatula and pour the batter into the baking dish. Level the batter using a spatula.
6. Bake until the brownies separate from the dish. This is about 30 to 45 minutes. Another indication that the brownie is cooked is by inserting a toothpick in the middle. If no cake residue attaches, it means that it is cooked.
For people with gluten intolerance, there is another variety of the spicy cherry chocolate brownies. It is called as the flourless vegan chili and cherry chocolate brownies. You can try this if you have guests who cannot tolerate flour in their meal. The procedure is similar to the regular brownie. The difference is only the removal of flour.
Flourless Vegan Chili and Cherry Chocolate Brownies
· 2 cups cooked black beans
· 2 eggs
· ¼ cup vegan butter sticks
· ¼ cup raw cacao powder
· 1/8 tsp chili powder
· 2 tsp almond extract
· 1/3 cup stevia
· ½ cup raw cacao nibs
· 1/3 cup dried cherries
· Pinch of ground white pepper
Procedure
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a non-stick baking dish
2. Combine beans, eggs, cacao, salt, pepper, chili powder, stevia and butter until smooth.
3. Add the raw cacao nibs and dried cherries.
4. Transfer mixture to the baking pan
5. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
6. Allow to cool and slice into squares.
7. Keep the slices in a jar until they are ready to be served.
Tips
The level of spice in the spicy cherry chocolate brownies depends on your personal preference. However, do not add too much chili powder, cayenne pepper or ground pepper. They may give an odd taste to your original favorite. If you have children at home, it is important to add this only in small amount. Kids may not like the idea of changing the taste and they may find the brownie too spicy for their taste buds.
Trivia
There are different myths about the creation of this favorite dessert. One popular belief is that a chef accidentally added melted biscuit dough. The other is a housewife who improvised baking the recipe because she does not have baking powder. But whatever is the true source of the chocolate brownies, one thing is for sure. The “accidental” discovery is a pleasant surprise to us.
