The Choclate Prince

How to Mold Chocolate Candies

Ever wonder how those adorable and great-tasting shaped like Santa chocolate every Christmas, or hearts at Valentine’s? They sure are amazing to give out to the people we love, plus they dont cost too much. However, wouldn’t it be nice to make some by yourself? It will be more special if those chocolate candies are created by your own hands, right?
You must be skeptical as this sounds so hard to do. And the more you think that it is hard to do and time consuming, the more you are wrong to think so. You see, it is much easier than the usual candies that you would want to create since the chocolate is just being melted in the process. You just buy supplies from your favorite chocolate store as a chocolate bar; plain and just square. You can create fun shapes in very easy steps.
Go create your very own chocolate candy now. Here are the ingredients that you should be collecting first before you start making your own chocolate gifts.
-
Chocolate bar (The sweet one, do not be confused with the baker’s chocolate which is unsweetened. You want yours to be sweet. And do not settle for a chocolate chip. Just go with the bar or block).
-
Molder (It is now your chance to pick the shape that you want. Go with the clear plastic if this is your first time. Go with the inexpensive ones this time and buy those expensive molders once you know what you are doing).
Here are some guidelines to make your purchases:
-
If you have a steamer, it is the best to use it for this step. But if you don’t, you can simply set up your steaming process by getting a large saucepan and pour water in it. Get a smaller saucepan and place it on top of the water but make sure there is no way that the water will touch the chocolate as the mixture will surely turn into its solid form again, which you can no longer melt a second time. If you are using dark chocolate, heat it under 113 degrees and then cool it down to 88. It won’t take you too long to melt. Even in low heat, your chocolate will melt soon enough.
-
Grab a brush and dip some on your melted chocolate. After doing so, brush some on the edges of your molder. Make sure that you brush the sides evenly; all crannies and nooks must be brushed properly with chocolate melting.
-
After you notice that the each space in the molder is half-full, you can now place it inside the freezer. Yes, you are not using the oven this time. Let it freeze out for 5 to 7 minutes depending on your ref’s temperature.
-
Remove the molder from the freezer and brush again some additional thin layer on the molder. And place it back on the refrigerator for another 5 to 7 minutes. Repeat the process until the spaces are all full and you got some solid shaped chocolate candy formed.
-
On the last part, you can simply top it all out with crushed almonds or any type of filling that you wish to add like marsh mallows. After doing so, add a thin layer of chocolate through your brush and then put it in your refrigerator.
See? It is so easy to do, right? You can in fact do this with the kids. Have fun with your chocolate candies!
